Aikido - More Seminar!

The muscles in my legs and back are very stiff and sore. My knees and elbows feel bruised. I had a great time! I would be back tomorrow for the final session but I have other responsibilities tomorrow. This seminar really helped me push myself. I met a lot of wonderful people who all had something to teach me. Due to my own limitations I had to sit out one hour of each of the sessions today but I did train for four hours today and three yesterday which was more than I thought I'd be able to do. I saw - and experienced - a lot of great Aikido. Wonderful!

Aikido - Seminar!

Considering how long I was able to go last night, tonight was great! I arrived just after 6pm to the Kenshinkan dojo in Vista. After stretching, MacBeth Sensei taught for an hour with variations on sokomen iriminage. After a 10 minute break, Dyer Sensei taught for an hour on kokyunage and suwariwaza. Katz Sensei finished the session with jo dori, stretching and massage. The session went three hours and, except for some work from my knees I pretty much kept up with everything.

Aikido - Gan Menuchi

After warming up, we worked on katatori ikkyo leading up to katatori ganmenuchi (lapel grab then face punch) attacks. With that opening we did ikkyo, iriminage, kokyunage, and shihonage. T. came to class tonight, too.

Aikido - Ushiro Tekubitori Techniques

I ran out of energy from the beginning of class, tonight. It might be because my eating has been... less than good this week. Anyway, we worked on ushiro tekubitori responses, tonight: kokyunage, ikkyo, shihonage and others. We also did a couple rounds of jiyuwaza - giving S.W. and K.M. lots of practice for their up-coming tests - and ended with each of them doing a randori against five (S.W.) and six (K.M.) uke.

Gym 9/6

Whoof! Tired today. Got home late from work last night (~10:40pm) and went straight to bed.

Lifecycle: only 15 minutes and the first third was only at level 4 (the rest at level 5) and cadence in the high 80s to low 90s.

Doctor

I went in for a physical today. The results of last month's blood test were pretty good - cholesterol: 184 with a 3.6 ratio (they want it less than 200 and less than 5, respectively), no other problems. My BP was 122/73.

Gym 9/5

Lifecycle: 19 minutes at level 5 with cadence in the low 90s and 1 minute at level 6 with cadence in the low 100s to finish.

We got a late start because my alarm was in my pants pocket and I didn't hear it and A. had a hard time getting up.

Aikido - Jiai Dojo

Tonight was our first night practicing at Jiai Aikido. We'll be here all month because the Rec Center is redoing the floors. The dojo is a lovely, spacious place with a large mat area and high ceilings. T. went with me to check it out. Since she might be practicing on Tuesdays and Saturdays I signed her up for the whole month.

Sensei started us off with stretching and paired ukemi practice then we went into a number of techniques starting with munetsuki ikkyo and then several oyowaza including a kokyunage and a koshinage ending. We also did some munetsuki kaitenage.

Another advantage is that we will be learning some of the more tradition dojo practices while we are here. We will be bowing in the style that Soderman Sensei practices in his dojo and helping sweep the mats after class.

Gym 9/4

Missed the notice that the gym wouldn't open until 8:00 am. I have a doctors appointment at 8:40 so no work-out today, either!

Gym 9/1

It is hot, today!

Lifecycle: 20 minutes - Started at level 5 with cadence in the low-90s and the last minute at level 6 with cadence at 100+. That's a big improvement since I started a month ago when all I could manage was "20 minutes at level 3 with HR ~123 and cadence in the mid-70s."

Lateral arm raises: 3x10 @ 5 lbs - I have some improvement to do in the weights end of things.
